Goals: The majority of the available funds are directed to
the specific targets; the Foundation did consider and award grants in areas
outside of the target areas which provide a valuable service or which address
important community needs.

Teen Parent Education
$3,000
Purchase of parenting
curriculum for outreach to young and new parents. In response to young fathers'
interest in their program for educating and supporting young mothers, this
curriculum benefits both mother and father with positive parenting information.
Baptist Children's Home & Family Services
'Pathways' Christian Counseling Services
$15,000
Funds to expand this family
and youth counseling program among approximately 40 churches within the
Southwestern Indiana Southern Baptist Association. Funds will support the
recruitment of financial and referral commitments from these congregations. The
program will employ a master's level therapist who would care for approximately
100 families per year.
YMCA of Southwestern Indiana, Inc.
Service-Learning Initiative
$25,000
An initiative that promotes
the concept of combining meaningful community service with established learning
objectives. The purpose is to teach youth to think about and analyze what they
are learning. This effort would be implemented with youth already enrolled in
existing YMCA programs.
HEALTH MINISTRIES IN
CONGREGATIONS
Goals: Health ministries programs have grown from the
recognition of the faith community’s responsibility to care for the whole
person, including the physical, mental and spiritual needs. The components of a
health ministry may include: health education, parish nursing, visitation,
support groups and spiritual care.

member congregations. Activities will be directed towards improving the health

screening, health education, and referrals for those needing additional care.

development and expansion of hospital program begun in 2003 that supports
health ministries in congregations in the counties surrounding Dubois. Eleven
congregations are currently participating.
Deaconess Family Practice Residency
Spiritual Care Nurse

Funding for second year of
development of the spiritual care nurse role, directed toward helping patients
with chronic diseases find hope and motivation to better manage their diseases
through spiritual connection and support.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION
Alcohol abuse and illicit
drug use are associated with child and spousal abuse; sexually transmitted
diseases, including HIV infection; teen pregnancy; school failure; motor
vehicle crashes; escalation of health care costs; low worker productivity; and
homelessness. Alcohol abuse and illicit drug use also can result in substantial
disruptions in family, work, and personal life.
Goals:
WBF wishes to support church and faith-based efforts
to address substance abuse issues among youth and adults, including support of
programs designed to steer youth away from illicit drug use in our community.

Arts and SMART Moves

Funding to conduct the 'Stay
SMART' prevention program for youth ages 13-17, presented by the Substance
Abuse Council. The goals of the program include: 1) increasing participants'
knowledge about alcohol and other drugs, 2) increasing communication among
staff members, parents and participants regarding alcohol, tobacco, and other
drugs, 3) helping youth identify and resist peer and media pressure to use
alcohol and other drugs, 4) helping teens develop and improve skills around
making decisions, resisting social and peer pressure, and coping with the
stress of growing up.
The program will partner with Tales & Scales in order to explore
a new way to apply arts to the task of substance abuse prevention.
Multi-Church Consortium (represented by
Holy Redeemer School)
Strengthening Families Faith-Based Collaboration

A
collaboration among five (5)
churches, the YMCA of Southwestern Indiana and Youth First, Inc. to expand the
use of the Strengthening Families Program for Children Ages 10-14. The churches
in the collaboration include: Holy Redeemer, Good Shepherd, St. Phillip,
Corpus Christi and St. John The Baptist
Catholic churches as well as Agape Family Ministries and the YMCA of
Southwestern Indiana.
The funds will be used for training of facilitators, program materials and
program evaluation.

expand the Strengthening Families Program for children Ages 10-14 at

School program support

This grant will provide
staff support to pursue specific activities including 1) contact work - seeking
kids, 2) operating a weekly club that offers the Christian message, 3)
conducting Mega Weekend and 4) sponsoring kids at Young Life camp. Grant funds
will be used specifically for staff support to conduct these activities.
Catholic Charities of Tell City
Strengthening Families 10-14
$7,490
This program is a
partnership with Youth First, Inc. to initiate the Strengthening Families
program for 14 youth and their families. This funding will provide training of
facilitators and training materials.
